Episode 28: Prayers for Our Kids

Physical Protection

Thank you Lord that you watch over our children coming and going, now and forever more.¹  Thank you for placing a hedge of protection around our children and our household- on every side.² You are our rock and fortress and deliverer, God, our rock, in whom we take refuge, our shield, the horn of our salvation, our stronghold.³ Thank you Lord that you're with our children wherever they go.⁴ Release us as the parents and them as the children from any worry or dread.⁵ We ask that no evil or sickness comes upon our children, and that you set your angels charge over them, to keep them in every way.⁶ Thank you that you bless the righteous and surround them with favor as with a shield.⁷ 

That They Seek Jesus and Follow God

Thank you Lord that your name is a strong tower, that the righteous run to it and are safe.⁸ Thank you that we train our children up in the way that they should go, and that they do not depart from it.⁹ We ask you that our children trust in you Lord with all their heart and submit to you in all ways, that you make their paths straight.¹⁰ Thank you that your word is a lamp to their feet and a light to their path.¹¹ We ask that our children are never ashamed of the gospel but are filled with the Holy Spirit in all that they do.¹² Thank you that they don't operate with a spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind.¹³ Thank you Lord that our children fix their eyes on things above, that they have great peace and undisturbed composure.¹⁴ We ask you that our kids are bold, confident, and powerful with your spirit overflowing. Thank you Lord that you go before them and our children follow you because they know your voice.¹⁵ We ask you that if they turn to the right or to the left they hear your voice saying, this is the way, walk in it.¹⁶  Thank you that your word is hidden in their hearts, ¹⁷ that our children are blessed because they fear you Lord and find great delight in your commands.¹⁸

Honor Authority

Dear God we pray over the authority you have placed in our children's lives. Thank you for blessing their teachers, leaders, and coaches. We ask that all authority placed in our children's lives have hearts for you, Lord. We pray that our kids respect authority and listen to the right voices guiding them toward wisdom and in the Spirit. Thank you that they know your voice so well Lord that they follow it, like sheep with a shepard, and if they hear another voice- they don't recognize it and don't follow it.¹⁹ Thank you that their obedience is known and rejoiced over, but they are well-versed and wise to what is good and innocent to what is evil.²⁰ Thank you that we can have confidence in our leaders knowing they must give an account to you, Lord.  Let our children be a joy, not a burden. ²¹ Lord we ask that you help the authority in our childrens' lives identify and use their God-given gifts for your glory. Thank you that we have confidence that you, Lord, are over all authority in Heaven and Earth. ²²

Have Good Friends

We ask you Lord that our kids have good friends and are good friends. Thank you that our children are blessed peacemakers, ²³ that they encourage others and build others up, ²⁴ that they love others with brotherly affection, outdoing one another in showing honor.²⁵ We thank you that they love others as you have loved them. Thank you that everyone will know they are your disciples by the love they have for one another.²⁶ Help them choose their friends carefully, ²⁷that they walk with the wise to become wise. ²⁸ Give our children the courage to ask for forgiveness when needed and extend forgiveness, shining your light onto others. Thank you that our kids don't withhold good from those to whom it's due ²⁹ and that they rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn, and live in harmony with others. ³⁰

Confidence and Emotional/Spiritual Protection

Thank you Lord that our children are unoffendable. ³¹ That they are not easily shaken, ³² that they are built on a firm foundation. ³³ Thank you that no weapon formed against them will prosper, that every tongue that rises against them will be silenced because they are your servants and their righteousness is in you, Lord.³⁴ Thank you that they know you are always with them, and they see you fighting on their behalf, let them rest in that confidence.³⁵ Remind them that you are always with them. Let our children not be led by emotion but by your Spirit who leads and guides us in all truth. ³⁶ Thank you that whatever the enemy means for evil you turn to good, Lord.³⁷ Thank you Lord that anything that rises against our children will be defeated, anything coming from one direction will flee from them in seven directions. ³⁸ Thank you Lord that you open doors that no person can close. ³⁹

Favor Among God and Man

God we ask for favor for our children with you, with their teachers, and their friends. We know you, O Lord, bless the righteous and surround them with favor as with a shield.⁴⁰ Thank you that your face shines upon them, and you are gracious to them in all circumstances.⁴¹ We thank you that the people in their lives want to bless and encourage them, and build them up.⁴² Thank you that your goodness and the gospel shines through their lives, and that people get to know you Lord through our family. Let our light shine before others so that they may see good deeds and glorify you, our father in heaven.⁴³ Thank you that you have set apart our family for your glory. ⁴⁴

Grow in Wisdom and Stature, Have a Heart for Learning

The Bible says as Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, he grew in favor with God and man.⁴⁵ We ask the same for our kids, Lord. We ask that our kids will always see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.⁴⁶ Thank you that our children wait for the Lord and are strong.⁴⁷ Remind our kids that they can do all things through Christ who gives them strength.⁴⁸ Help our children make good, spirit-led decisions with supernatural discernment. Thank you that you open the heavens to bless the work of their hands, that you make them the head and not the tail, at the top and never at the bottom.⁴⁹ Keep our children following you carefully, Lord, not turning to the right or to the left.⁵⁰ We ask that you protect the hearts of our children, Lord. Above all, guard their hearts, for everything they do flows from it.⁵¹ We ask that our children always seek your plan Lord. Thank you that you make a way where there is no way,⁵² and you work all things together for good.⁵³ We ask you Lord to help our children be hard workers, that they do everything as to You, Lord.⁵⁴

That They are on the Lord's Path, Fulfilling God's Calling on Their Lives

We ask that you keep our children on your path Lord, fulfilling your purpose and calling on their lives. We thank you that your word says you have plans to prosper them and not to harm them, plans to give us a hope and a future, that we will call on you and pray to you, and that you will listen. Thank you that we seek and find you when we seek you with all of our hearts.⁵⁵ Thank you that we can be certain that you began a good work in our children and that you will bring it to completion until the day of Christ.⁵⁶ Thank you that anytime our children are tempted, you provide a way out.⁵⁷ Thank you that our children are more than conquerors through You who love us.⁵⁸ May the words of our hearts and meditations of our lips be acceptable in your sight, O Lord.⁵⁹ Thank you that you establish the steps of our children⁶⁰ and that all your promises are true.⁶¹ Thank you that your words Lord do not return empty, but accomplish what you desire and achieve the purpose for which you sent it. ⁶²

Joy/Peace/Hope

Thank you Lord that our children look to you and are radiant.⁶³ That they are taught by you and have great peace. Thank you that our children are established in righteousness, far from oppression and fear.⁶⁴ Thank you Lord that you fill our kids with all joy and all peace so that by the power of the Holy Spirit they abound in hope.⁶⁵ Thank you Lord that when they lie down at night, their sleep will be sweet.⁶⁶ Thank you Lord that our children know joy and peace are not dependent on circumstances or from things of this world, and that they don't look for it there. 

For Us as Parents

Thank you Lord that all your promises are yes and amen.⁶⁷ Thank you that your Spirit does not depart from us, and that your words will always be on our lips and the lips of our children.⁶⁸ We ask that you give us wisdom as we make decisions for our children and guide them. Let us always be listening for your voice and respond with boldness for what you have called us to do. Let our children inherit our faith, not our fear. Thank you that you our homes are a sanctuary and a place filled with the Holy Spirit. That we as parents have a confidence in the fear of the Lord and our children have a refuge in our secure fortress.⁶⁹ Thank you that you listen to our voice daily, Lord, that we can bring our requests to you and wait expectantly. ⁷⁰
