Looking for a gift for the 5 year old boy in your life? I’ve got you covered!
5 year old boys are SUCH a fun age to shop for. They’re imaginative, active, curious, and suddenly obsessed with mastering new skills and collecting random treasures. My son at this age loved anything that made him feel adventurous, independent, competitive, or just plain silly.
Here are some of our favorite gifts for 5 year old boys that have actually gotten tons of use in our house! These are real things my 5 year old son either has and LOVES or are on our list for him this year!

3. 5-Minute Story Books

I have noticed a lot of books lately either seem like baby-ish board books, or are for “early readers” so they have very few words on the page and aren’t super entertaining for kids who can’t actually read yet. These 5 minute stories seem like the perfect solutiojn for my son! Captivating enough for his age but still lots of pictures!
4. Mario Watch

5. Lamborghini Remote Control Car

6. Science Kit

I think my son is going to love this science kit! It has great reviews on Amazon.

8. Printing Digital Camera

9. Basketball Goal

10. Over The Door Basketball Goal

Over-the-door basketball hoops are so fun! We love ours.
11. Lego City

My son is absolutely obsessed with Legos! These are some of his personal favorites and he has chosen these as gifts for a few friends this year too.
12. Magic Set

He absolutely LOVES this! Endless fun and many of the tricks are definitely easy enough for 5 year olds!
13. Digging Set

Other suggestions:
Toy cars (my son is really into monster trucks and hot-rod race cars like Lamborghini, Corvette, etc.)
Sports equipment (soccer goal for backyard if he loves soccer, etc.)
A real “big boy” bike
Get Your Kid Their Own Landline – Meet Tin Can!
This is all the rage with my kids and their friends! Tin Can is basically a landline phone! But it is kid-friendly, comes in fun colors, and has extra features! You can call other “tin cans” at no additional cost – unlimited! OR you can pay ~$100/year to have a traditional phone number (through Tin Can) so they can call grandma/grandpa etc. Tin Cans come with an easy to manage app, you can set easy speed dials, approve contacts, etc. I love that NO CALLS are allowed unless you have approved that number! No spam, no strangers, it’s all just easy and safe and fun! My kids love getting a call from their friends!

What my Son Wants for Christmas 2026 – the SkootCase!
Have you seen these Skoot suitcases with a built-in scooter!? How precious, right! No more tired kids walking in airports, no more carrying their luggage for them, they’ll be happily zipping around! And the best part is, the scooter detaches so then you have a scooter with you on your trip for family walks, etc! These are at the top of my kids’ wish lists this year!

Why Shopping for 5 Year Old Boys is So Fun
Five year olds are at such a fun stage because they still fully believe in pretend play and magic, but they’re also becoming more independent and confident in their interests.
Everything feels exciting to them.
I’ve absolutely loved this age.
